IndyCar racer Rinus ‘VeeKay’ van Kalmthout had a successful weekend in Milwaukee. The Dutchman delivered two impressive races on the Milwaukee Mile, finishing in the top ten on Sunday, specifically in seventh place, which significantly boosted his championship standings. Van Kalmthout is now eagerly anticipating the final race of the season.
Van Kalmthout competed in two races on the Milwaukee Mile over the past weekend. Despite the chaotic nature of both races, with spins and stalled cars providing plenty of on-track action, Van Kalmthout remained composed. The Dutch racer secured a fourteenth place finish on Saturday and improved his performance on Sunday by crossing the finish line in seventh place.
A Successful Weekend for ‘VeeKay’
“We had a great weekend,” reflects ‘VeeKay’, speaking to Motorsport.com. The driver admits he didn’t anticipate such a successful weekend. “What a challenging track this is! I finished seventh, which I’m very pleased with. Another top-ten finish, all the hard work is starting to pay off.” This marks the seventh time this season that he has finished in the top ten.
Room for Improvement
Despite Van Kalmthout’s strong performance in the second half of the season, the driver believes there are still areas for improvement. “We didn’t expect it to be such a chaotic race. That’s why we decided to use more sets of new tires during practice,” explains the IndyCar driver. “As a result, we ran out of new tires during the race. That cost me a few places.”
There is one more race scheduled this season for the driver, at the Nashville Superspeedway. The Dutchman currently ranks fourteenth in the championship, and Van Kalmthout hopes to finish the season strong with a good result in Nashville.
