Kevin Magnussen is set to miss the upcoming race in Baku, making history as the first F1 driver to accumulate 12 penalty points on his license within a 12-month period. This punishment stems from a 10-second time penalty and two penalty points he received following an incident with Pierre Gasly in Monza. Gasly is now urging the stewards to overturn Magnussen’s suspension.

Gasly has expressed his belief that the penalty is unjust and has indicated his willingness to discuss the suspension with the stewards in an attempt to have it reversed. “When someone told me he got a 10-second penalty, I was surprised. He tried to overtake me and we came wheel to wheel, but in the end, I didn’t lose any time. I hope the stewards can overturn the suspension, as it would really be unfair,” said the Frenchman.

Magnussen Expresses Frustration

Magnussen, who managed to score one point by finishing tenth despite the penalty, has voiced his frustrations over the stewards’ decision. “We raced in turn 4 and had slight contact, but there was no damage to either car and no consequences for the race.” Yet, the Danish driver received a 10-second time penalty.

Potential Temporary Replacement

Haas has not yet confirmed who will replace Magnussen for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, but there is a high probability that Oliver Bearman will be the substitute. Bearman is set to make his full-time F1 debut with the American team in 2025.
