Kevin Magnussen is utterly baffled by the penalty he received for the incident with Pierre Gasly in Monza. The Danish driver was handed a ten-second time penalty and two penalty points for the collision, a punishment that, according to the Haas racer, does not align with the incident itself. However, Magnussen has no plans to alter his approach for the remaining races of the season.

The Dane secured the last point in Monza by crossing the finish line tenth, but was informed post-race that he need not appear at the start in Azerbaijan. Magnussen has been banned from racing, after his two penalty points for the incident with Pierre Gasly brought his total to twelve penalty points within a year.

Kevin Magnussen’s Race Ban Confusion

“I don’t understand it at all,” responds Magnussen to his race ban, according to Motorsport Week. The Dane doesn’t comprehend his penalty, especially since the incident with Gasly, according to the Haas driver, wasn’t a big deal. “I’m completely confused. Gasly and I raced hard into turn four, we had slight contact. There was no damage to either car, no impact on either of our races, and I received a ten-second penalty.”

Magnussen compares the incident to the collision between his teammate Nico Hülkenberg and Visa RB driver Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian received a five-second penalty for the incident with the Haas driver. According to Magnussen, this is not consistent with his own time penalty. “Ricciardo pushed Nico into the grass at 300 kilometers per hour, completely ruining Nico’s race,” explains Magnussen. “Huge consequences and damage to Nico’s car and he gets a five-second penalty. You know, where’s the logic? I just don’t get it.”

Plans for Future Races

Will the Dane change his approach for the remaining races after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix? Magnussen has no doubts about that. “I’ll be back in Singapore. I’ll have zero points, and I’ve been saying all along that I’m not going to hold back. You know, it’s pointless. And I scored a point today, so see you later,” concludes the Dane.
