Kevin Magnussen has been suspended for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Danish driver received two penalty points for causing a collision with Pierre Gasly during the Italian GP. This brings Magnussen’s total to 12 penalty points within twelve months, resulting in the Haas driver being absent from the grid in Baku.

Magnussen attempted to overtake Gasly at turn four, but failed and collided with the Frenchman’s car. The stewards fully blamed the Dane for the accident. According to the official FIA document, Magnussen did not adhere to the rule that drivers must “execute an overtaking maneuver in a safe and controlled manner”.

In addition to the penalty points, Magnussen also received a ten-second time penalty. However, the Dane does not lose his tenth finishing place, and thus retains his point for the standings. Oliver Bearman, who will also be behind the wheel for Haas next year, is reportedly the Dane’s replacement in Baku.
