Last week, Lando Norris emerged victorious at the Grand Prix in Zandvoort. The Englishman drove a controlled race, pulling a 22-second gap on his rival, Max Verstappen. Norris used a well-known phrase from Verstappen to summarize the race, saying “Simply lovely” over the radio. According to Daniel Ricciardo, Verstappen probably didn’t appreciate that.

“Simply lovely” has become one of Max Verstappen’s most famous slogans. However, it was Lando Norris who described his race in Zandvoort in such terms. Was the Brit’s comment a jab at his biggest rival in the title fight? Daniel Ricciardo, who is good friends with both drivers, also noticed the radio comment. According to the Australian, Norris should be careful with what he says.

Daniel Ricciardo’s Perspective on the Rivalry Between Norris and Verstappen

“They are both extraordinarily talented,” said Ricciardo about the ongoing battle between Norris and Verstappen. “I’ve had the pleasure of being teammates with both of them. I think Lando (Norris) is growing in confidence as he spends more time in the sport and achieves more success. You also have to be very confident to let out a ‘simply lovely’ after the race.”

“No matter how good friends Verstappen and Norris are, I know how competitive Max is,” Ricciardo added. “I don’t think he appreciates that radio message, so we’ll see how he responds this weekend.” McLaren and Red Bull are set for another showdown in the form of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.

Ricciardo’s Future in the Sport

Ricciardo, who is observing the fight at the forefront from his VCARB 01, has not yet signed a contract for the upcoming season. After much speculation about his future in the sport, the eight-time race winner has at least survived the summer break.

“My intention is, of course, to stay in the sport, but time will tell,” said Ricciardo. “Nothing is set for next year, but some things will be confirmed in the near future. For me, it’s important now to focus on what I’m doing behind the wheel; that only increases my chances.”
