Could the Hockenheimring be making a comeback on the Formula 1 calendar? The investment group Emodrom Group is reportedly injecting 250 million euros into the circuit. The group’s CEO, Tim Brauer, also reveals that the organization is working hard to bring Formula 1 back to Germany, although it prefers not to engage in “financial adventures”.
The investment group Emodrom Group is set to acquire 75 percent of the Hockenheimring circuit. The company reportedly plans to invest 250 million euros in the Hockenheimring over the next five to ten years, with the primary focus on upgrading the infrastructure and building new facilities.
Return to the F1 Calendar?
The next step for the German circuit could be a potential return to the Formula 1 calendar. Hockenheimring director Jorn Teske admits to Welt that the Hockenheimring has always maintained contact with F1. The Grand Prix organization plans to make a “slow and serious” comeback.
“We have been working behind the scenes for more than four years on the further development of the Hockenheimring as a leading race circuit. We now want to implement forward-looking projects,” adds Brauer, CEO of the Emodrom Group. “Of course, we also think about Formula 1, but we approach such considerations with great caution. We do not engage in financial adventures, but we also try to find models to bring Formula 1 back to Germany.”
Fans of the Hockenheimring will have to be patient, as the German circuit is not yet on the calendar. Brauer prefers a long-term perspective: “We think in cycles of 20 and 25 years, not in the short term.”
