Following the recent Hungarian Grand Prix, the Hungaroring in Mogyoród has embarked on a substantial renovation. The second phase of the planned refurbishment has commenced, with the complete reconstruction of the pit building being the main component.
First and Second Phase of the Renovation
The first phase of the renovation was successfully completed earlier this year. Over a span of five months, 1,500 people worked tirelessly to prepare the circuit for the Grand Prix on July 21 (UST). This phase included the expansion of the paddock, the construction of new tunnels under the start/finish line, and new asphalt. The focus has now shifted to the second phase, which involves the complete demolition of the old pit building. Recent social media posts have shared images showing the progress. The reconstruction of the pit building is scheduled to be completed before the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2025.
Contract Extension Until 2032
The Hungaroring has undergone several significant changes in the past, including the removal of the chicane at turn 3 in 1989 and modifications to turn 1 and turn 12 in 2003. The current renovation is crucial for the preservation and enhancement of the circuit. Thanks to the planned improvements, Formula 1 has recently expressed its confidence by extending the contract with the Hungaroring until 2032.
