In the lead-up to the Dutch Grand Prix, prominent former racers and Formula 1 personalities share their memories of the Zandvoort circuit. This time, we hear from Ross Brawn, who has fond memories not only of the circuit but also of Amsterdam.

“What always stuck with me about the Dutch GP was the passion of the fans, even back then. It must have been the late seventies or early eighties with Williams, during the ground effect era. The track has changed since then, with several modifications made to create more overtaking opportunities, as overtaking was quite challenging back then. I have many fond memories of Zandvoort and always enjoyed myself there. It gave me the opportunity to explore Amsterdam and discover the interesting aspects of the city. I found the canals fantastic; I had never seen anything like it in my life. I was happily married then and still am, but the red-light district was an experience that opened my eyes.”

“Max Verstappen’s entry has generated a lot of interest in Formula 1, and we can see how passionate the Dutch fans still are. I’m looking forward to experiencing that again, to see how intense it is. It looks very exciting now, and we can expect a great race. It will undoubtedly be a spectacle: that’s the main reason.”
