Multiple sources have reported that Alpine is set to bid farewell to team boss Bruno Famin this summer. The Frenchman took the helm of the French racing stable in July 2023, following the dismissal of Otmar Szafnauer. After disappointing results in recent months, Alpine is now reportedly looking to place its trust in Oliver Oakes, the team boss of Hitech GP, a successful team in Formula 2 and Formula 3.
Unexpected Departure
Szafnauer’s departure at the time caused quite a stir in the paddock. No one expected the American, who had transferred from Aston Martin in 2021, to be dismissed. Vice President and engine boss Bruno Famin was appointed as interim team boss and was allowed to retain his duties this year.
Underwhelming Performance
Under Famin’s leadership, Alpine has had a mediocre season so far. Despite significant improvements compared to the first few races, the team is currently only eighth in the constructors’ championship. While drivers Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon had already amassed forty-seven points around this time last year, the tally now stands at nine.
Oliver Oakes: A New Leader in the Making
It is rumored that Bruno Famin is being shown the door for this reason; after the summer break, he is expected to step down as team boss. The French are said to have set their sights on Oliver Oakes, the 36-year-old captain of the junior team Hitech GP. Oakes, an entrepreneur and former driver, has already achieved multiple successes with the British racing team.
