The Hungarian Grand Prix turned out to be a rather uneventful race for Ferrari drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. Despite this, both drivers managed to score decent points for the team, although the gap with top teams McLaren, Mercedes, and Red Bull remains significant. Ferrari has been stagnating in the development race over the past few months. However, Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur is satisfied with the recent results.
Ferrari has been lagging behind in the race with rivals Red Bull, Mercedes, and McLaren in the last few races. The Italians have been struggling to make a significant impact since Charles Leclerc’s victory at the Monaco Grand Prix. Particularly in Leclerc’s case, the team has been characterized by strategic blunders. The relatively good performance during the Hungarian Grand Prix is a positive sign for Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur, who is pleased with this apparent ‘catch-up’.
Leclerc’s Performance in Hungary: A Closer Look
“We had a pretty good speed on Sunday,” he told MotorsportWeek. “Last year we finished here 65 seconds behind Red Bull, and this weekend we were only 20 seconds away from the leader.” Leclerc narrowly missed the podium in Hungary, while Sainz settled for sixth place. Together, Ferrari collected 20 new World Championship points.
Comparing Ferrari’s Performance with McLaren
“Now it’s not enough – it’s clear that McLaren was faster than Ferrari,” emphasized Vasseur. “The whole weekend the difference was two or three tenths. But if you look at where we come from – the last two to three races – we have made a good catch-up. Now we need to focus on the next race. It’s time to take another step forward in our performance.”
