In the final race of the Formula E season, Dutch drivers Robin Frijns and Nyck de Vries were unable to secure a victory. Frijns finished eighth in the closing race in London, while De Vries came in sixteenth. The championship title was clinched by German driver Pascal Wehrlein in the British capital.
Heading into the final weekend, there were still seven drivers who could conclude season 10 of the electric racing series as champion. After the first race on Saturday, only three remained in contention. Alongside Porsche driver Wehrlein, Jaguar teammates Mitch Evans and Nick Cassidy were also in the running.
Wehrlein entered the final race as the championship leader, a status he owed to his victory in London on Saturday. A second win wasn’t necessary; a second-place finish on Sunday behind winner Oliver Rowland was enough. Evans finished third, and Cassidy also couldn’t prevent Wehrlein from securing the title. Frijns’ eighth-place finish was commendable, especially considering he had to be taken to the hospital after a crash on Saturday. After checks, he was found to be healthy and was able to participate in Sunday’s race.
For both Frijns and De Vries, it was a season to forget. Neither managed to win a race. Frijns did manage to finish second three times. For De Vries, his fourth-place finish on Saturday in London was his best result of the season, a season in which his team, Mahindra, was primarily focused on making progress for the future. In the final championship standings, Frijns and De Vries finished ninth and eighteenth, respectively.
