Mercedes’ race engineer, Andrew Shovlin, expresses his excitement as the team returns to the forefront after two long years. Drivers George Russell and Lewis Hamilton have secured victories in the last two Grands Prix. Shovlin emphasizes the extensive efforts required to make the W15 competitive, but acknowledges it as a welcome challenge.

“It’s been quite a long journey for Mercedes, but we’ve been making steady progress,” Shovlin shared on the F1 Nation podcast. “To the outside world, it may not seem linear because we suddenly appear on the podium and have recently won a few races.”

Mercedes’ All-Round Improvements

According to Shovlin, Mercedes has found improvements in all areas. The 50-year-old Brit emphasized that every department of the German team has contributed to the current results. “The entire company has done a good job,” he proudly stated. “In the wind tunnel, mechanically, in terms of weight, balance, and even tire management. In a way, these challenges were more enjoyable than all those years of winning.”

Continuous Updates: The Mercedes’ Distinction

“What sets Mercedes apart is that we have consistently delivered three or four updates in the last eight or nine Grands Prix,” Shovlin continued. “Some of these were mechanical, some aerodynamic, and some improved the driving behavior. It took a while to tackle everything, but the development has been really strong and I think we can sustain this for a while.”
