Toto Wolff recently expressed his positive views on the tests Mick Schumacher completed with Alpine. In early July, the young German took the wheel of the A522 for several practice laps around the Circuit Paul Ricard. Schumacher is hoping to make a comeback in Formula 1 by replacing Esteban Ocon at Alpine in 2025. However, the French racing team has a ‘long list’ of potential candidates.
Toto Wolff took Mick Schumacher under his wing when he was let go from Haas after 2022. As a result, ‘the son of’ ended up at Mercedes after two mediocre seasons with the Americans. In Brackley, he became a test driver and worked closely with Wolff. However, this year he is competing in endurance racing for Alpine.
Test Drive at Circuit Paul Ricard
Since Alpine announced that it will not continue with Esteban Ocon in 2025, Schumacher has been hoping for a Formula 1 contract with the team from Enstone. In early July, he had the opportunity to prove himself against test driver Jack Doohan, who is also vying for a spot on the grid. The two were invited for a test day at Circuit Paul Ricard. According to Toto Wolff, the test went excellently.
Positive Feedback from Alpine
“From what I’ve heard from Alpine, it was a superb test,” Wolff told the German branch of Sky Sports. “Schumacher has apparently really proven himself. I’m very happy to hear that. They are really very satisfied at Alpine, but to be honest, I didn’t expect anything else.” However, a comeback for the 25-year-old driver is not yet a certainty. Alpine team boss Bruno Famin said during the race weekend in Great Britain that the team has ‘a long list’ of options. “Doohan and Schumacher are definitely in the running, but we now have more than three options,” said the Frenchman.
