Aside from being a nine-time winner of the British Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton has now ventured into film production. The same weekend that saw the British racer claim his first victory in over two years also unveiled the trailer for his upcoming F1 movie. “No one can teach you about Formula 1 better than Lewis Hamilton,” says actor Damson Idris about the recent Grand Prix winner.
It was a triumphant weekend for Lewis Hamilton at Silverstone. Not only did the British world champion secure his first Grand Prix win since 2021, his 104th, but the first trailer for his new Formula 1 movie was also revealed. Hamilton has now branched out into the film industry, serving as one of the producers of the movie F1. The film features a fictional Formula 1 driver, Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt, who makes a comeback for the equally fictional F1 team, Apex Grand Prix.
‘No one better to learn from than Hamilton’
Although the story is fictional, it was primarily Hamilton’s task to ensure that the film was close to the truth. “Lewis is not afraid to say when something is wrong. He just says: hey, that wouldn’t happen. That’s rare in the film world,” says British actor Damson Idris about the collaboration with the seven-time world champion. Idris plays rookie and Pitt’s teammate Joshua Pearce in the film. “There is no one better to teach you about Formula 1 than Lewis Hamilton,” the actor praises the Formula 1 driver.
The Brit says that Hamilton inspires him in many ways, even outside the film world. “[Hamilton] actually doesn’t get enough praise,” Idris believes. “Apart from being a great athlete, he has had such a positive impact on the sport. He is innovative and inspiring.” The film will be released in cinemas from June 27, 2025 (UST).
