Max Verstappen cruised to his seventh victory of the season in Barcelona. Initially, rain was predicted during the Spanish Grand Prix, but the circuit remained surprisingly dry. However, the upcoming race weekend in Austria promises to be less pleasant – tropical storms are on the horizon. Here’s the weather forecast for the Austrian GP!

So far, only the Canadian Grand Prix has delivered a real rain race. Changing conditions caused a sensation in Montreal, where the right tire strategy proved to be crucial. For now, the Austrian GP seems to be shaping up to be an even bigger spectacle – the current weather forecast predicts a warm and extra rainy weekend. As the drivers prepare for their third sprint weekend of the season, multiple sessions are at risk of being completely washed out.

Weather Forecast for the Austrian GP

On Friday, Formula 1 seems to be getting off lightly. While Max Verstappen and his colleagues have to complete a first free practice and a sprint qualification, there is only a small chance of a shower. It will remain lightly cloudy over the Red Bull Ring, with the temperature rising to a whopping 28 degrees Celsius. Some drops are expected, but for now, that’s nothing compared to the thunderstorms predicted for the weekend.

Saturday sees the sprint race and the regular qualification on the schedule. Both are at risk of being affected by severe weather. The maximum temperature in Spielberg will be 30 degrees, with about a 55% chance of a heavy downpour. According to the latest predictions, we should prepare for a summer storm. The weather also promises to play a role during the Grand Prix – on Sunday, the chance of thunderstorms is as high as 95%. Especially in the afternoon, precisely when the race starts, it could storm heavily over the circuit.
