The long history of Formula 1 is filled with many heroes. Over nearly 75 years, 34 different drivers have been crowned world champions. Some of them still enjoy a legendary status in the sport. Today, Max Verstappen is making a significant mark in the history books. However, some believe he is already better than the greatest names of the past.
Former team boss Eddie Jordan, a significant figure in Formula 1, compared Max Verstappen to former world champions Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna in the Formula For Success Podcast. Both are icons of the sport – Schumacher won 91 Grands Prix and shares the record for the most titles won with Lewis Hamilton (7 in total). Senna, on the other hand, is seen as one of the most talented drivers of all time.
Jordan has experience with both drivers. “I’ve had both Senna and Schumacher in my cars,” he said, “but to be very honest, I think Max Verstappen would outperform them in the same car.” The Irish businessman has watched Verstappen string together three championships over the past few years. “He’s been racing for so long now and is just incredibly good,” concluded Jordan.
The 76-year-old Edmund ‘Eddie’ Jordan founded his own Formula 1 team in 1979. Over the years, the Irishman has coached many big names. In 1982, he put Ayrton Senna in a Formula 3 car for the first time, and in 1991, a young Michael Schumacher made his debut with Jordan in Formula 1.
