Ferrari, a legendary name in motorsport, is reportedly in talks with Formula E about a potential participation in the championship. Despite its illustrious history, Ferrari has never competed in an electric race. As the company increasingly incorporates electric drivetrains into their model range, joining Formula E becomes an intriguing prospect.

According to Jeff Dodds, a top executive at Formula E, the Italians have shown interest in joining the championship. If they do, Ferrari’s engineers in Maranello would be pitted against experts from other major manufacturers. Porsche, Jaguar, McLaren, Maserati, and Nissan are already represented in the electric racing class.

A spokesperson has confirmed that discussions have taken place between Formula E and Ferrari. The latter refers to these as ‘exploratory talks’, but this does not rule out eventual participation in the Formula E championship.

A few years ago, an electric vehicle from Maranello was unthinkable – founder Enzo Ferrari was a staunch advocate of the internal combustion engine. However, the automaker has since launched several hybrid models and is building a massive factory dedicated to electrified vehicles. Formula E is an ideal platform for further research into electrification in the automotive industry.
