Charles Leclerc wasn’t the only driver to break a long-standing curse in Monaco. Yuki Tsunoda, the Japanese driver from Visa RB, also had a reason to celebrate in the principality – he finally scored points in Monaco in his fourth Formula 1 season. This marks yet another instance this year where Tsunoda has proven himself as a top-tier driver and a serious contender for the big teams.

“It’s good that we’ve scored some points again,” said Yuki Tsunoda after finishing P8 in Monaco. “I think we definitely deserved it. We had to do quite a bit of fine-tuning when it came to strategy. Of course, I wanted to push, but that’s not always practical. We had to stay as calm as possible [to defend our position]. In the end, I scored points in Monaco for the first time, so I’m definitely happy.”

New Contract

Monaco is the fifth Grand Prix where Tsunoda has been able to convert his race into points. The Japanese driver wants to leverage his consistency in the top ten to secure a new contract. His current team, Visa RB, has not yet signed anyone for 2025. Tsunoda recently expressed his desire to remain loyal to the Faenza-based team, but nothing is confirmed yet.

“The fact that we are so consistent helps me a lot to focus on what I want to show,” concluded Tsunoda. “We just have to keep going like this.” The 24-year-old Japanese driver is currently in tenth place in the drivers’ championship, between both drivers from Aston Martin, the team most linked to Tsunoda.
