Charles Leclerc has finally clinched victory in his home race, fulfilling a dream shared by both the Ferrari driver and his father. During the post-race press conference, the Monegasque driver reminisced about his father, Senna, and Monaco, revealing that he had a good night’s sleep before the race.
The newly crowned Grand Prix winner was naturally asked about the connection between Senna, Leclerc, and Monaco during the post-race press conference. “I think that was probably the first time my father spoke to me about Ayrton. He told me to watch an onboard video of him driving through the streets of Monaco, and I was like, oh my God, this is amazing,” the Monegasque driver praised.
“From that day on, of course, I knew more and more, I grew up more and more with Ayrton. But yes, the fact that he was so special in Monaco was incredible to see and to now win in Monaco myself is amazing.”
Relaxed Preparation
When a reporter during the post-race press conference mentions that the Ferrari mechanics were so nervous that most of them couldn’t eat their breakfast, Leclerc responds relaxedly: “I actually got home late and couldn’t cook, so I ordered my favorite pizza, which is not usually the best preparation for a race, but I thought, okay, maybe it will help me mentally to take some of the pressure off. I had a really good sleep.”
