Ferrari is reportedly on the verge of signing a mega-deal with one of Mercedes’ current sponsors. The deal, set to rival the record-breaking partnership between Red Bull and software company Oracle, sees Ferrari teaming up with tech giant HP (Hewlett Packard). Currently a sponsor of Mercedes, HP is said to be shifting its allegiance to the Scuderia from next year.
Is Ferrari on a Raid?
It appears that Ferrari is on a raid in Maranello. Prior to the new season, Ferrari managed to snatch seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes. Now, it seems the team is also eyeing to poach sponsor HP. According to American outlet Sportbusiness, a deal between HPE (a sister company of HP) and the Scuderia is imminent. The official announcement is expected to be made during the race weekend in Miami. The deal is rumored to be worth between 90 to 100 million dollars per year.
How the Deal Could Benefit Ferrari
A deal with a tech behemoth like HP could give Ferrari an edge over the competition. It’s well-known that Red Bull has greatly benefited from its partnership with software company Oracle – after all, modern Formula 1 is heavily reliant on data. As races are now also run on computers, a partnership with HP could prove to be a valuable advantage. Mercedes appears to be the big loser in this deal. HPE has been a significant sponsor of the German racing team since 2018, but it seems that Ferrari is stepping in.
