It’s official: Viaplay will be broadcasting Formula 1 in the Netherlands for the next five years. Viaplay has secured the deal, retaining the exclusive broadcasting rights of the premier class until 2029. The streaming service and FOM announced this today via a statement. In addition to streaming all sessions on the Viaplay app, the collaboration with F1 TV Pro will continue.
CEO of Viaplay Netherlands, Roger Lodewick, had this to say: “We are incredibly proud that Formula 1 will be part of our Viaplay offering for the next five years. The sport was a crucial part of the launch of Viaplay in the Netherlands. Now, two and a half years later, we have a fantastic team, a diverse and high-quality product, and a bright future ahead. With our new local organizational structure, we are now even better equipped to respond to the needs of the Dutch audience and further anchor Viaplay in the Dutch media landscape.”
The Formula 1 Director of Media Rights also commented on the extension of the collaboration. Ian Holmes: “Formula 1 and Viaplay share the joint vision to produce world-class broadcasts, so fans can enjoy all the tension, drama, and excitement from the edge of their seats. Thanks to our dedication, we have seen the number of viewers consistently increase year after year, and the passionate fanbase continues to grow. This historic agreement is linked to the collaboration with F1 TV Pro, F1’s own streaming service, and ensures that fans won’t miss any of the best action on and off the track in the coming years.”
