The future of Kevin Magnussen at Haas remains uncertain as his contract with the American F1 team comes to an end. However, there’s a high probability he might re-sign, especially with his current teammate Nico Hülkenberg already leaving. In such a scenario, Magnussen has a clear message for his new teammate: “I’m not here to babysit.”
Rumors have been circulating in the paddock for some time that Oliver Bearman is the frontrunner for a seat at Haas. Bearman stepped in earlier this season during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix to replace Carlos Sainz at Ferrari due to an acute appendicitis. The young Brit performed exceptionally well, finishing in the points at seventh place. Bearman is also scheduled for six appearances in free practice sessions for Haas this season.
With Nico Hülkenberg’s departure to Sauber/Stake F1, Magnussen anticipates he might stay at Haas, as teams usually opt for some form of continuity. The likelihood of having Oliver Bearman by his side is equally high. However, whether the Ferrari Driver Academy talent can benefit from Magnussen’s experience remains to be seen.
‘Babysitting is for Home’
The Dane, who last weekend stood out for collecting time penalties and penalty points, is not particularly eager to lend a helping hand to his potential new teammate.
“I’m not really here to babysit, you know? I do that at home. So hopefully, the guy we have in the car is as competent, professional, and consistent as Nico has been,” says Magnussen.
