George Russell expressed relief in the paddock after the sprint race at the Lusail International Circuit. The Mercedes driver was pleased to have secured his second place on Saturday, especially with Lando Norris‘s MCL39 in his rear-view mirror. Despite the ‘struggle’ in the final laps, the Briton enjoyed the sprint, stating, ‘This is one of the most enjoyable circuits to race on.’

“It was a good race; nice to grab second place,” says a relieved Russell after the sprint. The Mercedes driver was particularly pleased to finish ahead of Lando Norris. “We know the McLarens are incredibly fast, and the final laps were a real struggle. This circuit is also so fast; it’s one of the most enjoyable circuits to race on. But at the same time, it’s also brutal on the tyres, and the car. So I’m glad I came in second.”

Physical Challenge

Russell also emphasized the physical challenge presented by the Lusail International Circuit. “I tried to take some rest in between, as the G-forces are quite strong. The race therefore felt endless, but it’s cool to race here. And actually, it should be like this on every circuit. That’s why I’m glad I could race here.”
