Formula 2 driver Richard Verschoor made an impressive podium finish in the sprint race in Qatar. The Dutchman finished third in his return for MP Motorsport, having started fifth.
Oliver Bearman, who will be racing in Formula 1 for Haas next year, claimed victory at the Losail International Circuit. He managed to stay ahead of Jack Crawford. Like Verschoor, they both benefited from the fact that Isack Hadjar started on the softest of the two tyre compounds. The Red Bull junior was indeed fast at the start of the sprint race, but he had to watch as the men behind him on the harder tyre overtook him. Hadjar even made a mistake and spun out.
For Verschoor, the third place was a fantastic start to a renewed collaboration with MP Motorsport. He will be racing for this Dutch team, for which he has previously raced, for the entire Formula 2 season next year. He will also be driving for MP Motorsport in the main race on Sunday and during the last two races in Abu Dhabi. Until now, Verschoor has been racing this year for the Italian Trident.
Since Hadjar finished fourth and Gabriel Bortoleto sixth, the battle for the title remains incredibly tense. Hadjar gained two points on Bortoleto, who still leads. The Brazilian has accumulated 172.5 points, while Hadjar is at 170.
