Despite a promising start at Zandvoort, where it seemed McLaren drivers would once again secure the first and second places, this hope was dashed seven laps before the finish line. Lando Norris was forced to retire due to mechanical issues – a suspected oil leak – and watched as his teammate Oscar Piastri disappeared into the distance. However, the McLaren driver is gearing up for a comeback at the Italian Grand Prix.

Lando Norris was all but guaranteed a second-place finish at the Grand Prix in Zandvoort, until his MCL39 threw a spanner in the works. Suddenly, Norris found himself stationary on the track with his McLaren vehicle, with no choice but to watch the rest of the race from the dunes. The driver is therefore determined to seek revenge in Monza.

The Brit is looking forward to racing at the Monza circuit so soon after the disappointment in Zandvoort. “The Italian Grand Prix is always a gem,” Norris shares in the preview. “The fans come out in droves, and the high-speed sections add an extra thrill. I’m going into the weekend fully focused, ready to give it my all and fight for the win. Bring it on!”

However, Norris is not the only McLaren driver looking forward to the Italian GP. Oscar Piastri is also excited about the race weekend on the iconic circuit. “Zandvoort was a very strong weekend and I am determined to maintain that momentum and fight for victory in Italy. I finished second last year, and I will do my best to improve that result this year.”

For team boss Andrea Stella, the Zandvoort Grand Prix weekend was one of ‘mixed feelings’, with one driver on the top step of the podium and a second who did not cross the finish line. “After conducting a thorough investigation into Lando’s retirement, our focus now shifts to the last nine Grands Prix of the season,” says the Italian. “We cannot rest on our laurels. The fight for victories and disappointments are closely linked in this sport.”
