The verbal feud between Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko and McLaren CEO Zak Brown continues. The 81-year-old Austrian explains how Brown has twisted his comments about the mental strength of Lando Norris. This doesn’t surprise Marko, as he believes the American often does this.
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko stirred up controversy ahead of the Grand Prix weekend in Austin with his comments about the mental strength of Lando Norris. According to the Austrian, the McLaren driver is not as mentally strong as Max Verstappen. Marko also pointed out Norris’s less than stellar opening rounds, where the driver often loses a place or two.
Marko Defends Himself
Both McLaren CEO Zak Brown and McLaren team boss Andrea Stella took issue with Marko’s comments. The 81-year-old advisor now explains that his words were misunderstood, particularly by Brown. “There was controversy again, just because I said that Norris is a poor starter,” Marko tells OE24.
“I never talked about mental health, I just said that Max is mentally stronger,” Marko defends himself once more. “They really shouldn’t twist my words. They deliberately cause controversy. But we know Zak Brown’s games, he deliberately stirs up controversy wherever he can.
