Alpine experienced a glimmer of hope in Brazil amidst a challenging season. Pierre Gasly secured points in both the sprint race and the São Paulo Grand Prix: P8 in the sprint and P10 in the race. These were the team’s first points since the Belgian GP at the end of July, a welcome boost for the French racing stable that has often been at the back of the pack in recent races.
Pierre Gasly was immediately in the top ten during free practice and managed to score a point in both the sprint race and the Brazilian Grand Prix – something Alpine had not achieved in a long time. However, after the Grand Prix, the Frenchman was not entirely satisfied, as he felt there was more potential, even though a point for Alpine is a welcome boost. “Although I’m happy to have scored a point again today, I’m a bit disappointed that we couldn’t get more,” said Gasly. “It seemed like the car had more speed than we could show. If we had been in a better position earlier in the race, it probably would have helped us at the end.”
Although Gasly believes there was more potential, Alpine has little to complain about. Before the São Paulo GP, the team had only scored 20 points this season. “Despite the missed potential, I have no complaints: we take a point, which is very welcome given our performances in recent races,” said the Frenchman. “We will closely examine the data to see what we could have done differently and how we can improve for next time. Overall, it was an excellent weekend, where we were in the top ten in every session. Brazil seems to suit me well!”
