Fernando Alonso has once again called in sick for his media obligations. The Spaniard was absent on the media day for the GP of Mexico, and he is also unable to attend the press conference in the run-up to the GP of São Paulo. According to Aston Martin, the two-time world champion is suffering from a gastrointestinal infection and therefore could not make it to Brazil in time. However, Alonso is expected to be back in the car this weekend.

Fernando Alonso is once again absent on media day: with the sprint weekend in São Paulo on the horizon, the Spanish star must first recover from a ‘special treatment’. Alonso has recently been struggling with a gastrointestinal infection and flew back to Europe this week for an appointment with a specialist. This weekend, he is expected to be back behind the wheel of his AMR24, but he has to skip the media obligations on Thursday.

‘Special Treatment’

“We can confirm that Fernando Alonso will miss his media day in Brazil,” Aston Martin wrote in an official statement. “He was already suffering from a gastrointestinal infection in the run-up to the race weekend in Mexico City. He has been in Europe in recent days for a special treatment from an expert. This treatment has delayed his travel plans to Brazil, but it also ensures that he is ready for this weekend’s race.”

Alonso will want to use the sprint weekend in São Paulo to make up for the GP of Mexico. The veteran started his four hundredth race in Formula 1 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. What should have been a celebratory race ended in disappointment. Alonso’s car was damaged during a chaotic start and had to be pulled out of the race in the sixteenth round. Hopefully, Grand Prix number four hundred and one will bring him more luck.
