The Australian fast-food chain Grill’d has apologized to all fans of Oscar Piastri. Grill’d had promised to give out free burgers after the Italian GP, every time the McLaren driver finished on the podium. However, the 24-year-old has not managed to get beyond fourth place since then. The chain jokingly says it never intended to ‘curse’ Piastri and will now give out a burger for every race he finishes.

In Australia, they naturally enjoyed the past Formula 1 season of national pride Oscar Piastri. The Melbournian won several Grand Prix and led the championship for a long time. Fast-food chain Grill’d cleverly capitalized on the hype and promised fans a free burger every time Piastri made it to the podium. But in the five Grand Prix that followed that announcement, the McLaren driver consistently missed the top three. He also lost the lead in the World Championship to teammate Lando Norris.

New Promotion

Grill’d apologized to all Piastri supporters who believe in ‘curses’ after the São Paulo GP. Fans have suggested in recent weeks that the chain inadvertently cursed the Australian’s season. The promotion – which runs until mid-December – has now been adjusted; fans now get a free burger for every race Piastri finishes. A stark contrast to the earlier promise. “We never intended to make a burger so delicious that it could change the course of Formula 1 history,” Grill’d joked on social media.

However, the new promotion does little to diminish the talk of a curse. Superstitious fans now fear that Piastri will only record DNFs in the last triple header. “Please stop this action and give us some hope for the last three races,” responded a social media user.
