Williams had a tough weekend in Brazil. The team failed to score any points, while other midfield teams such as Haas, Racing Bulls, and Sauber did manage to finish in the points. The British racing stable hopes to recover for the final races of the season.
Williams struggled with the car’s setup throughout the weekend. There was improvement on Sunday, but they couldn’t show their speed as they were stuck behind other drivers. Alexander Albon finished the São Paulo Grand Prix in eleventh place. “It was a great race for the fans, but unfortunately for us, it was a race to quickly forget,” said the Williams driver. “It’s frustrating that our rivals scored points today, but we’ll regroup and focus on a better result in Las Vegas.”
Carlos Sainz finished the Grand Prix in thirteenth place, after racing with damage throughout the race. He got stuck in the first corner between teammate Albon and Lewis Hamilton, where he collided with Hamilton’s Ferrari. “Not the day I was hoping for. As soon as I got stuck in turn 1, my car suffered significant damage and my race was essentially ruined. Time to go back home and see what we can improve. Qatar will also be a challenge. There are still a few races on the schedule, so we can’t relax. We have to keep going,” Sainz said afterwards.
Fifth Place Within Reach
Williams is having their best season since 2016, when they ended the year with 138 points. Currently, the team has 111 points and is fifth in the constructors’ championship, 29 points ahead of Racing Bulls. With three more Grands Prix and a sprint race to go, Williams will have to pull out all the stops to score points again in the competitive midfield and end the season on a positive note.
