Sebastian Vettel has not ruled out a potential comeback to Red Bull, albeit in an advisory role. The four-time world champion was spotted again in the paddock during the past race weekend in Brazil. While Vettel was drawing attention to deforestation in the Amazon, he was also asked about Christian Horner’s departure and a possible future with Red Bull.

During the São Paulo GP, Vettel promoted ‘F1 Forest’, an initiative to combat deforestation in the Amazon. Naturally, he was also asked by F1.com about the latest developments in the premier class. Vettel, who won four titles with Red Bull between 2010 and 2013, commented on Christian Horner’s dismissal. He also discussed a possible return to the Austrian racing team, perhaps as a successor to top advisor Helmut Marko.

“I was surprised by the news,” Vettel said about Horner’s dismissal. “Christian had been there from the beginning and knew the team like no other. I thought everything was stable, but of course, things have changed.” Horner was relieved of his duties in June, after which Racing Bulls team boss Laurent Mekies took over. “I, of course, also know Mekies,” Vettel continued. “He is truly a wonderful person. That being said, I think Horner has left deep traces. Not only because of all the success he has achieved with the team, but also because he played such a central role in the team.”

Considering a Comeback

“I’m not entirely familiar with the organization, the structure, and especially the future plan,” the German stated. “Let’s wait and see how it turns out.” Earlier this year, Vettel was also linked to a management role within Red Bull, with senior advisor Helmut Marko calling him ‘his ideal successor’. “I don’t know,” he responded modestly. “I noticed there was a lot of talk about it. Helmut and I discussed it, but it never led to anything. It never really took off.”

Although Vettel is enjoying his retirement, he does not rule out the possibility of holding a position within Formula 1 in the future. “I think I’m quite satisfied with where I am in my life right now,” he concluded. “I still love Formula 1. At first, I thought: ‘I’m not sure if I’ll keep following it, because I also need to keep some distance.’ But I faithfully watch all the races – I just love this sport. Besides, I know all the drivers well, so it’s close to me. If the right opportunity ever arises, I would consider a comeback.”

Vettel retired from Formula 1 in 2022. Since then, the German star has delved into the agricultural sector and taken courses at Harvard University in America. In addition, he is involved in various environmental projects.
