Following the GP of São Paulo, Ferrari CEO John Elkann expressed strong criticism of drivers Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton. In light of the double DNF at Interlagos, the executive emphasized that both drivers need to focus better. “More racing, less talking,” he sternly warned. Not long after, both Hamilton and Leclerc posted messages on social media, in which they both praised the fighting spirit and team spirit of Ferrari.

It’s hard to separate both messages from the words of John Elkann. The Italian born in America stated on Monday to Sky Sports that the race weekend in Brazil had been a ‘huge disappointment’. “Our mechanics deserve the title with what they manage during the pit stops,” he proclaimed. “And if we look at our engineers, there is no doubt that the car has improved. But for the rest, nothing is up to par. It’s important for our drivers to focus on racing and talk less,” he scolded them. “We still have a number of important races ahead.”

‘Only unity can help us’

Charles Leclerc partly agreed with Elkann’s words, but at the same time sought connection. He emphasized the importance of team spirit within Ferrari. “It was a very difficult weekend in São Paulo,” he acknowledged on social media. “It’s disappointing to come home with almost no points, especially at such a crucial moment in the constructors’ championship.” The Scuderia is still fighting for second place.

“From now on, it’s uphill,” Leclerc promised optimistically. “It’s clear that only unity can help us turn this situation around in the last three races. We will do everything – as always.” Lewis Hamilton also used social media to express his support for Ferrari. “I support my team and I support myself,” wrote the seven-time world champion. “I don’t give up. Not now, not then, never. Brazil, thank you.”
