Fernando Alonso has not yet given up on Lewis Hamilton‘s first season with Ferrari. The seven-time world champion made his debut for the Scuderia this year, but the hoped-for good results have yet to materialize. So far, Hamilton’s success has been limited to sprint races. However, Alonso still believes that the British driver can turn the tide.
Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton had a difficult relationship during their only year as teammates at McLaren in 2007, but the Spaniard seems to have changed his tone towards the British driver. Hamilton has been driving for Ferrari since this season, but has not yet lived up to the high expectations. According to Alonso, Hamilton’s performance at Ferrari is being unfairly scrutinized, and the situation at the Scuderia is not much different from that at Mercedes a year ago.
“Last year was the same. The Mercedes was apparently a complicated car to drive,” Alonso sees similarities between Hamilton’s 2024 and 2025 seasons. “Russell was slightly more comfortable (in the W15), maybe it’s the same this year. But without knowing the full picture, it’s hard to have an opinion.”
‘Great Driver’
Hamilton’s debut at Ferrari was not entirely without highlights. During the sprint race in China, the Brit even crossed the finish line first. Therefore, Alonso sees his former teammate bouncing back. “Lewis is a great driver, especially on tracks like the one in Canada,” the Spaniard continues. “He can exploit all his strengths. At the moment he is struggling, but I think he can quickly change the situation.”
